Position Description:

The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing and leading the engineers, drafters and technicians located in the Lynchburg operation. This person owns and drives the design and owns the engineering support for manufacturing Limitorque electric actuators, gears and controls . The engineering manager leads the Electric actuator LPO efforts of the Limitorque electric actuator products. The manager of engineering reports directly to the Director of Automation and is a matrix report to plant manager located in Lynchburg, VA. This manager must have excellent communication skills to interface with multiple departments located in the factory. They will also communicate with other locations that produce the Limitorque electric actuators across the world. They also must work seamlessly with the sales, product management, product development, engineering, quality, and operations. Direct involvement with customers and end users will be necessary to develop strong customer relationships. The manager must possess leadership capability and a strong background with electric actuators and gears. The manager is responsible to retain and attract top talent, support training and development of engineers, and manage the performance in the Lynchburg factory. Work with Global Engineering on enterprise solutions to drive towards and implement unified processes and best practices for engineering design, process efficiency, and engineering data control and access to ensure the Lynchburg Engineering department is able to fully support the global Limitorque brand.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the machine shop, production, supply chain, quality, and assembly and test benches in the operations.

  • Support R&D projects for new products or manage improvements to existing products of the Lynchburg team.

  • Develop strong internal and external customer support though technology focus and adopt the latest in new technology and research when applicable.

  • Manage root cause analysis of equipment failures and technical customer issues.

  • Make effective use of capacity planning tools (RCCP and Engineering OTD) and business forecasts to identify and address current and anticipated gaps in engineering capacity for all projects. Balance the efforts to optimize the usage of low-cost engineering resources as appropriate to augment engineering capacity.

  • Continually develop and implement improvements within the team to improve operational performance aligned with corporate objectives and Customer requirements. Improve working processes, procedures, and define possible areas for standardization.

  • Participate in improvement project activities such as Lean manufacturing, lean practitioner etc; to continually improve the operational performance and cost position for the Lynchburg team and product lines.

  • Develop and implement personnel development plans including mid and year end PMPs, career profiles, and succession planning for all personnel. Identify training needs and work to make training available to staff.

  • Support HR in new talent acquisition and assessment.

  • Ensure products are safe and compliant with appropriate industry requirements (e.g. FM, CSA, ATEX, PED, API, Machinery Directive, etc.).

  • Ensure proper due diligence in processes and documentation to support that compliance.

Position Requirements:

  • Engineering degree plus 5-10 years of Electric actuation, gears and controls equipment design, manufacturing, assembly and testing experience.

  • Technical team management experience (3+ years)

  • Must be self-starting and have motivational skills and a high sense of urgency to drive and execute production and development schedules.

  • Interpersonal skills are critical for optimum communication with internal and external customers including the Flowserve management team and employees.

  • Ability to produce professional engineering reports and presentations.

  • They must be able to deliver these presentations to management teams, industry committees, employees and customers

  • Excellent time management and organization skills

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and must be Fluent in English verbally as well as in written communication.

  • Ability to travel when needed.

  • Must be U.S. citizen, NOFORN required.

Preferences:

  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineer degree preferred.

  • Other language skills are beneficial.
